Short Description:
This strategy has the roadmap to decarbonize the Spanish economy and achieve by mid-century the objective of being carbon neutral, that is to say that the balance of greenhouse gas emissions is zero. This will be achieved, on the one hand, by drastically reducing emissions and, on the other, by offsetting the emissions that continue to occur with mitigation actions. The so-called Long-Term Decarbonization Strategy (ELP 2050) will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% in 2050 compared to those emitted in 1990. To achieve this, says the Government, it will be necessary to reduce CO2 emissions from the 334 million tonnes equivalent (MtCO2eq) emitted in 2018 to a maximum of 29 MtCO2eq emitted in 2050.
